MS Commerce

The emerging global scenario necessitates the organizations to look for capable professionals and researchers in commerce, be competent in responding to the changing market needs and requirements. This unique program emphasizes a qualitative and empirical approach to deal with issues of both financial and non-financial sectors. This program concentrates on contemporary issues in the field of insurance, trade, accounting and finance and the students will be able to analyze the problems and make rational and cost-effective decisions. This will be helpful to enhance the social sensitivity and sensibility of the students and facilitate them in strengthening their skills vis-a-vis commerce, industry, and trade nationally and internationally.

Objectives

MS Commerce program aims to familiarize the students with recent trends and issues in the field of commerce and enable them to critically understand and interpret the business environment and its prevailing realities critically. This program is designed:
i. To develop the understanding of students about the theoretical, technical, strategic, and practical aspects.
ii. To familiarize students with the emerging issues.
iii. To provide an overview of new and fast-growing areas in the field of commerce.
iv. To develop the necessary skills for creating computer-based models for analyzing various decision problems emerging in today’s financial world.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for admission to MS Commerce program shall be minimum of 16 years of education in the discipline of Commerce/ Business or ACMA/CA/ACCA having an equivalence of 16 years of education from HEC as per Revised Postgraduate, Regulations and Procedures relating to MS/M.Phil. or Equivalent Program at AIOU.

Admission Procedure

I. A candidate seeking admission to MS Commerce program shall be admitted according to the admission procedure given in as per Revised Postgraduate, Regulations and Procedures relating to MS/M.Phil. or Equivalent Program at AIOU.
II. Candidates will be required to pass a test equivalent to GRE/GAT General conducted by the Department of Commerce.
III. The candidates having GRE conducted by ETS with minimum of 50 percentage points/score or an equivalent as per HEC policy be considered for admission in MS/M.Phil. /Equivalent programs, and shall not have to appear in the departmental admission test conducted by the university.
IV. After passing test, candidate will be called for interview and only selected candidates will be informed about their admission and to deposit the fee.

Duration

The minimum duration of the M.S. Commerce program shall be 4 semesters (2 years) and the maximum duration shall be 8 semesters (4 years) as per Revised Postgraduate, Regulations and Procedures relating to MS/M.Phil. or Equivalent Program at AIOU.

Course Work Evaluation

As per as per Revised Postgraduate, Regulations and Procedures relating to MS/M.Phil. or Equivalent Program at AIOU, the distribution of continuous assessment and final examination of each 3-credit hour course work shall be as follows:
i. Continuous Assessment 20%
ii. Mid Term 30%
ii. Final Examination 50%
